I was talking with one of my friends the other day who has a daughter who’s always loved sea animals and the aquarium. Being artsy (like me!) she would take her daughter to the aquarium and let her draw the animals she saw. Some of them proved to be difficult for her, like the octopus, and she was never happy with the way her proportions turned out.
Drawing animals and people has always been a little extra hard for me and so I thought kids would really love this tutorial I have for you today on tracing: learn to draw sea animals!
Tracing: Learn to Draw Sea Animals
Sea animals are so fun to draw with lots of curved lines. This tutorial provides bold lines (easy to trace) and repetitive shapes (you’ll see so many ovals on these!) Tracing is a great way to start drawing and gain some confidence, but these tutorials can be used for more than that…
Create a mobile
What kiddo wouldn’t love to have a mobile hanging in their room that they made themselves? Here are some quick steps to creating a mobile:
- Have your kids trace the pictures and color them
- Punch a hole in each picture
- Attach some string or ribbon in varying lengths
- Cut a circle out of cardboard and decorate it or simply use a hanger and tie or glue pictures to it
- Hang it from the ceiling
Now you have your own, made from scratch mobile!
Use them for nature studies
Have your kids pick out one animal each day. Trace and color it while you read about that animal.
- Where are they found?
- What does it eat?
- How do they help the ecosystem?
There are all kinds of fun facts out there to find (and this counts as learning about science stuff!)
Use as stickers or puppets
The very first page of this printable pack has a colored page for you to cut out the sea animals and make stickers with or glue/tape to popsicle sticks and create puppets.
Birthday parties
Having an under the sea birthday party theme? You can use the front colored page for cupcake sticks for example, or have the kids use the pages as coloring pages at the party! You could even make stickers or puppets like discussed above for it too!
I’ve created nine different tracing pages for you to enjoy. Check out the list below, download the pages and enjoy!
- Whale
- Octopus
- Fish
- Dolphin
- Starfish
- Jelly Fish
- Crab
- Eel
- Squid
I also put on the letters of the animal they are coloring so littler ones can also learn letter recognition and have more to color.
