A lot of people ask me how they can be successful.
They’re looking for a key or a secret.
Wanna know the biggest key?

People will look at my life and say, “Wow, Sarah. I want to be successful like you.” They talk about how I was homeless and how I now run multi 7-figure businesses.
They see that and think that it’s awesome (and God has TRULY blessed me), but one thing that so many people fail to realize is that, it’s not BEEN overnight.
I was homeless TEN YEARS AGO!!!
I wasn’t homeless last year. It wasn’t homeless even two years from last Tuesday. 🙂
It was a REALLY long time ago.
And every single day, every day you wake up, you’re alive, you breathe, you just focus on the work in front of you that will bring you to your goals and every single day, you get…yes…a little bit closer.
It’s like building a house.
You don’t go to an empty lot one day and the next day, you see a whole house with landscape put in and everything.
They work on building the foundation.
Then the house.
Then they put in the windows.
They don’t even get to the inside till last and THEN it’s the landscaping.
I mean, it’s sequential steps, in order, one day at a time, working toward the end result.
What’s your end result? How can you break up that BIG goal into little chunks. Quarterly goals. Then monthly goals, then daily goals.
Then it’s about focusing on those daily goals, one step at a time and before you know it, you turn around and WOAH…you’ve got a house built. And it’s cool and you made it and you’re so proud of yourself! 🙂
The problem is most people, while they have a big goal, it’s not important to them ENOUGH to do it.
Those that GET those goals, that achieve that success, are in there working on it day in, day out.
When the kids are sick and the house is a mess, they are in there, working an hour to maintain things, to put time in, sneaking in minutes when they can.
They don’t let ANYTHING stop them.
They keep going, keep working toward that goal.
There’s no quitting.
And yes, it’s needed to take breaks, I’m not saying don’t take breaks, but even on those days that ARE breaks, you can find 30 minutes to work on your goal. You’ve got a whole 24 hours. You can find 30 minutes. Don’t tell me you can’t. 🙂
It’s THOSE people, that are committed to their goals, who understand life is what we make it and that no one else is gonna get you your dream. YOU have to do it. Those are the people you see down the road in ten years, and they are a smashing success.
When their friends doubted them, when their parents made fun of them, when their church didn’t support them, when the world seemed bent against them, when things looked impossible, they simply focused on one step at a time. “A little progress each day adds up to big results.”

I remember watching Chopped on Food Network the other day and I really like that show. It was in the second round and it was 2 seasoned chefs against 1 young chef, barely 23. In the culinary world, it’s like a baby.
And the young chef was saying, “I’m gonna win because I have more fire inside, because I want it more. I don’t need experience, like my two opponents. I have fire.”
I knew. He’s not gonna make it.
And…he did get chopped!
Listen, experience trumps fire.
Yes, we should ALL have fire and passion for what we do and because that chef HAD fire, he WILL make it (if he keeps it long term). But experience trumps anything.
TEN YEARS ago I was homeless.
Today, I have a massive million dollar empire selling courses about Shopify, blogging, creating printables, and tons more coming. My printables sell on Shopify and THAT makes me multi-millions a year as well. I’ve got three really nice empires (my blog, my Shopify store selling printables, and my courses, where I teach all that I do).
These empires all collectively currently earn me $5.1 million dollars a year. But I been in ecommerce for over 21 YEARS!
I didn’t start out yesterday.
You look around at all the really top bloggers. The big names. They all been doing this a really long time.
Marie Forleo has been selling her B-School course for 11 years.
Melyssa Griffin, has been blogging since February 2013. In June 2015 (her 17th month blogging), she only had 4,065 email subscribers. In July 2017, she had 167,000!
Todd Herman, who is one of my personal favorites, he’s been coaching for over 20 years.
Amy Porterfield, she’s been selling courses for over a decade. 90% of her revenue comes from courses. And she’s built a massively large email list.
Back in 2010 (nine years ago), Amy only had 600 email subscribers. In 2015, she had 100k subscribers. Now in 2019, she has 200k email subscribers. She’s been doing this ten years and has made $26.8 million in revenue.
This is great. It’s fantastic. But it did NOT happen overnight.
I started blogging six years ago.
My first year, I made $11,840.
My second year, I made $72,161.25.
My third year, I made $967,143.31.
My fourth year, I made $3.1 million.
And in the last 12 months, I’ve made $5.1 million!
See how it’s a progression?
My first year, I was just setting things up. I was a baby blogger and there wasn’t help out there like there is today. My 12th month blogging, I started making $10k/month. Before then it was just chump change.
Then the next year, I got into affiliate marketing and more traffic and started making more.
Third year, I got heavily into affiliate marketing and was making even more.
In 2017, I started my Shopify store. Things really started to fly! After my blogging and Shopify empires were pretty well set and mostly autopilot, I set out in 2019 to start creating courses and nine months into courses, I hit 7-figures in courses.
You can see the clear progression. The layering. One step in front of the other. One more layer. One more empire. Just building things up.
If you keep going, keep layering, keep building, don’t give up, you will get there too!
But if you’re just starting out and you expect to make six-figures tomorrow, you’re sadly mistaken. Because even if you did, it wouldn’t be stable income. What you want is consistent, stable income, and that comes with TIME. <3
